A startup company led by a former NASA scientist has raised a $20 million Series A round of funding to develop a breathalyzer that detects the presence of THC in a person’s breath.

From an article by Carmela DeAmicis at VC.com: “The California-based Breathometer Inc. announced today that it has raised $20 million, according to a statement from the company, which demonstrated its product at CES 2018. The company is currently raising funds through a Series A funding round it plans to complete by the end of the year. The company, which is based in San Francisco, recently announced that it launched its own line of cannabis testing products that it markets as “The First Breathalyzer for Cannabis,” with an accompanying app. The company’s handheld device, called the Breathometer, detects the levels of THC and other cannabinoids in cannabis, which can vary significantly depending on the strain.

Mobile device testing company Arccana Technologies, which provides drug screening kits for law enforcement, announced last week that it has raised $20 million in new investments, including $10 million in a Series B round led by SK Ventures, with participation from existing investors, including existing investor Echelon Ventures.
